Le projet se distingue par l’utilisation de techniques de forage innovantes qui ne nécessitent pas de plateformes traditionnelles, ce qui contribue à réduire considérablement les coûts et à accélérer la mise en œuvre. Le puits d’essai “MOU-3” a été foré à un emplacement stratégique, à proximité du gazoduc Maghreb-Europe, ouvrant des perspectives prometteuses pour une commercialisation immédiate via un système de gaz naturel comprimé. Le Royaume espère que les résultats des tests confirmeront la viabilité commerciale du projet, qui deviendrait alors un puissant levier de développement économique.

Outre le gaz biogénique, les études géophysiques accompagnant le projet ont révélé la présence potentielle de réserves prometteuses d’hélium, un élément rare et de grande valeur stratégique utilisé dans de nombreuses industries de haute technologie. Ce projet s’inscrit dans une vision globale qui inclut d’autres projets énergétiques, notamment le terminal gazier du port de Nador West Med, reflétant l’engagement du Maroc en faveur d’un modèle énergétique durable et innovant.
